MRP Financial Analysis - Case Study & Technical Analysis
Executive Summary
The MRP Financial Analysis report bridges the gap between operational planning and financial forecasting. It translates the material plan (quantities of items to buy or make) into financial terms (projected spend and inventory value). This allows finance teams to project future cash requirements and inventory asset levels based on the production plan.
Business Challenge
Finance teams often struggle to get accurate forward-looking visibility into inventory costs.
- Cash Flow Forecasting: “How much will we spend on raw materials next quarter based on the current production plan?”
- Inventory Valuation: “Will our inventory levels rise or fall over the next 6 months?”
- Budget Variance: “Is the production plan aligned with our procurement budget?”
Solution
The MRP Financial Analysis report applies standard costs to the projected MRP activities.
Key Features:
- Projected Spend: Calculates the value of planned purchase orders over time.
- Inventory Projection: Estimates the value of on-hand inventory for future periods.
- WIP Value: Projects the value of work-in-process based on planned production.
Technical Architecture
The report is based on the XML Publisher (BI Publisher) architecture, sourcing data from MRP plan tables and cost definitions.
Key Tables and Views
MRP_PLANS: Defines the plan being analyzed (e.g., “Production Plan 2024”).MRP_PLAN_SCHEDULES_V: Contains the schedule entries (demand and supply) for the plan.MRP_FORM_QUERY: A temporary table often used in MRP reporting to store intermediate calculation results.ORG_ORGANIZATION_DEFINITIONS: Defines the inventory organizations included in the plan.
Core Logic
- Quantity Retrieval: Extracts the planned quantities (buy/make) from the MRP plan.
- Cost Application: Multiplies these quantities by the Item Cost (from the specified Cost Type, usually ‘Frozen’ or ‘Standard’).
- Time Phasing: Aggregates these values into buckets (weeks/periods) to show the trend over time.
Business Impact
- Financial Planning: Provides a data-driven basis for cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Strategic Alignment: Ensures that operational plans are financially feasible.
- Inventory Control: Helps predict and prevent unplanned spikes in inventory value.
Oracle E-Business Suite Reporting Library
We provide an open source Oracle EBS SQLs as a part of operational and project implementation support toolkits for rapid Excel reports generation.
Blitz Report™ is based on Oracle EBS forms technology, and hence requires minimal training. There are no data or performance limitations since the output files are created directly from the database without going through intermediate file formats such as XML.
Blitz Report can be used as BI Publisher and Oracle Discoverer replacement tool. Standard Oracle BI Publisher and Discoverer reports can also be imported into Blitz Report for immediate output to Excel. Typically, reports can be created and version tracked within hours instead of days. The concurrent request output automatically opens upon completion without the need for re-formatting.
The Filters, Columns, Rows and Values fields are used to create and deliver the data in pivot table format with full drill down to details.

The Excel template upload functionality in Blitz Report allows users to create their own layouts by uploading an Excel template with additional sheets and charts, automatically refreshed when the report runs again. This allows to create custom dashboards and more advanced visualizations of report data.

You can download and use Blitz Report free of charge for your first 30 reports.
The installation and implementation process usually takes less than 1 hour; you can refer to our installation and user guides for specific details.
If you would like to optimize your Oracle EBS implementation and or operational reporting you can visit www.enginatics.com to review great ideas and example usage in blog. Or why not try for yourself in our demo environment.
